FIELD TESTING PEMF FOR A PROSTATE REDUCTION PROTOCOL

NYCRA's own "COUSIN SAL" BANCHITTA, Retired FDNY FF and Cancer Prevention Advocate for the F.A.C.E.S. (Firefighters Against Cancers and Exposures) "Get Checked NOW!" program often partners with Dr. Robert Bard's clinical research team to explore the latest in diagnostic and therapeutic health innovations.

In August of 2023, Sal joined a group of four men over 50 on an exploratory and clinically monitored study applying PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency) to address BPH (Benign prostatic hyperplasia) or enlarged prostate gland. According to Yale Medicine, "about 50% of men between the ages of 51 and 60 have BPH, and that number jumps to 70% among men aged 60 to 69 and around 80% of men over 70 years of age".[1]

This exploratory concept was under a collaboration between Dr. Robert Bard (seasoned diagnostic imaging specialist), Russell Allen (executive director of Wellness Now!)" and Dr. Lennard Gettz (research coordinator of IPHA/ Integrative Pain Healers Alliance). In expanded technical collaboration with Mr. Patrick Ziemer (AuraWell PEMF), this panel launched the exploratory concept of employing a non-invasive alternative solution to reduce prostate size as part of improving men's overall health. "Historically, we have observed the growing success of PEMF on a wide variety of physiological disorders... joining the strength of Dr. Bard's imaging capacity to monitor and validate real-time treatment progress, we have united to launch this micro study... that may someday change the face of how prostate disorders may be managed", states Dr. Noelle Cutter, IPHA Senior Medical Editor & clinical research specialist.

Use of ultrasound imaging has been Dr. Bard's "scanner of choice" when it comes to analyzing and diagnosing a wide array of complex health disorders, from cancer tumors to inflammatory disorders. As a beta tester for developers of ultrasound feature upgrades, Dr. Bard has published an expanded set of findings in support of PEMF regenerative benefits.  His latest pilot study provided quantitative evidence about PEMF-induced micro-tissue and vascular reactions, thanks to his creative use of echocardiography. "Over the years, I have gained significant confidence in Pulsed Bioenergy therapeutic innovations", states Dr. Bard. "...through strategic imaging, we can visibly and quantifiably identify the smallest veins dilating and the contractility of the tissue being energized- appearing as pulse vibrations in the form of the undulating surface line of the muscle. This is how we can illustrate the path of ENERGY MEDICINE in real-time action".

PILOT STUDY ON THE ROAD
Sal Banchitta, one of four volunteers took home the Nova-HD (by AuraWell PEMF) from the Bard Diagnostic Imaging center in NYC. All case studies are instructed to use the PEMF device as directed- applying electromagnetic exposure via the provided PEMF coil for an est. 20 minutes 2x a day. "Aside from the clicking sound of the power source device, what I learned about PEMF is that it's widely known to be painless and has no known side effects", says Mr. Banchitta. "I also learned this technology to offer so much by ways of pain relief and cell regenerative therapy".

Unlike the other participants of the study, Sal was scheduled to go on a coastal road trip for business immediately after his PEMF consult. The clinical panel found this to be an ideal situation to conduct the test from the drivers seat.  "Adult Americans spend a major portion of their lives behind the wheel... proving how to integrate PEMF treatments while driving could be a great way to optimize use of one's travel time", stated Patrick Ziemer.

TREATMENT "ON THE GO"
Because I had a limited amount of time and a tight travel schedule, I chose to take advantage of the situation by bringing the PEMF into my truck- and it was easy! I installed an a 110 AC outlet to plug in the device. Sitting on the PEMF coil is the same here as it is in my recliner chair at home. The coil was soft and absolutely comfortable and it wasn't an impediment to my driving at all. I used it for about an hour each day and I had a lot of hours to kill.

SAL'S HEALTH JOURNEY
I have always been a proponent of early detection- especially when it comes to prostate cancer. Four years ago, my annual retirement exam started with a blood test. My primary found my PSA was slightly elevated, so I was then sent to the urologist as standard operating procedure.  Before you know it, I received a report of a "slightly" enlarged prostate which put me into what felt like an automated track to getting a biopsy.  Getting a biopsy without an MRI or any type of imaging made the needle work a complete and painful shot in the dark. Getting poked 12+ times in what felt like complete guesswork was terrible experience. In the end, we found that the biopsy could have been avoided if the PSA reading gave more information, and a more accurate assessment. As a member of a family predisposed to cancer, the stress of waiting for the biopsy, then actually undergoing the procedure thinking I MAY have have cancer or not was completely an unfair ordeal to put anyone through.

Meanwhile, this is what launched my journey to support prostate health- including why I am now driving with a PEMF coil on my drivers seat!

(Part 2) IMAGE GUIDED APPROACH TO THE TREATMENT OF HYPERPLASIA  By: Dr. Robert L Bard

Procedurally, the best way to study an enlarged hyperplastic prostate gland is as a low grade inflammatory process, similar to women with fibrocystic breasts considered to be breast inflammation. This does not need to be treated with antibiotics since this inflammation is often aligned with a chronic disease and requires a long-term treatment protocol. One example of this therapy is using a pulse electromagnetic applicator (PEMF) which can be applied over the groin area or under the pelvis (even in the car seat). For treatment applications, this protocol is recognized to be safe, painless, comfortable, and user-friendly on a long-term basis.  Reducing low grade inflammation can be managed with relatively low energy treatment over an extended yet controlled period of time.  Daily application of energy therapy inducers to the prostate and bladder area has been proven to reduce bladder urge, the need to urinate and improve the urine flow out of the enlarged prostate. It also decreases the chance of incontinence because the bladder that is more easily emptied is less likely to overflow in an uncontrolled manner.  (CLICK to see complete article)

SALSCAN 2.0: Cousin Sal Goes WHOLE-BODY MRI
8/8/2023- Ret. FDNY Sal Banchitta signs in to experience his Whole Body MRI from Prenuvo, NYC- a state of the art imaging company founded out of Vancouver, Canada. As one of the founding cancer awareness producers of NYCRA (NY Cancer Resource Alliance0 and F.A.C.E.S. (Firefighters Against Cancers & Exposures), Mr. Banchitta gladly accepted the invitation to receive this complete body scan as part of his pursuits of a base line for future scans and a preventative measure against cancer. "My mission alongside my fellow advocates is to learn about the latest modalities in diagnostics and treatment to bring awareness about cancer resources to the rescue community", says Sal. Prenuvo’s cutting-edge whole-body scans are based on 10+ years of clinical work while curating the biggest data set of whole-body MRI scans in the world. Unlike conventional MRIs, which take hours and often involve contrast injections, Prenuvo scans for 500+ conditions, including most solid tumors which can be detected as early as stage 1, in addition to aneurysms, cysts, and more – all without radiation, in under an hour. (See full article)

MEET PRENUVO: ADVANCED FULL BODY MRI FOR CANCER SCREENING & MONITORING

By: Lennard M. Gettz / NYCRA NEWS Editorial Team

The NY Cancer Resource Alliance and HealthTech Reporter proudly introduces the latest installation of the Prenuvo clinic in New York City. All Prenuvo facilities offer the most current diagnostic advancement in whole body MRI imaging. Recognized for its volume of diagnostic-quality images acquired under one hour, Prenuvo's capacity to capture whole-body imaging through its unique, cutting edge analytic software offers a comprehensive array of next generation applications for early detection and real-time monitoring of complex diseases and cancers.

On April 20, NYCRA NEWS conducted a special interview with DR. RAJ ATTARIWALA, Nuclear Medicine Radiologist, PhD Biomedical Engineer and  Founding Radiologist of Prenuvo. Known commonly as "Dr. Raj", he shares his commitment to improving on the current state of modalities in cancer diagnostics by offering  advancements on the performance, range and design of our current MRI technology.

INTERVIEW PART 1: FROM CONCEPT TO DEVELOPMENT by Dr. Raj Attariwala
I bought my first MRI machine in 2009 and published my concepts about the very first whole body diffusion images at a conference called the International Society for Magnetic Residence and Medicine or ISMRM back in 2011. It was well received and led to an invited review on the topic in the Journal of MRI in 2013. The imaging society recognized this as a powerful and highly beneficial solution at a time when most facilities can only scan individual organs or body parts (ie. prostate, breast, chest, abdomen etc). Scanning the entire body is really challenging from an MRI hardware and software point of view because MRI machines and associated software were simply not designed to do that.

The need 'to see more' has always been part of the diagnostic equation. In the field of nuclear medicine which looks at function of tissue, we often  scan the whole body when we inject a radioactive tracer, because you don't ever want to bring a patient back and re-inject them again. The beauty of MRI's absence of radiation and the ability to combine traditional anatomic (form) images with the power of functional imaging techniques invited the idea of covering more (actually the entirety) of the body without the need for any injection. I learned about the power of combining form and function years ago here in New York when I was training in the emerging field of PETCT at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

This collaboration cycle to build the whole body paradigm was a continuous process between MRI Physicists/ ENGINEERS and RADIOLOGISTS to expedite the design and prototyping stage. Having a doctorate in both fields made me the translator to both groups who commonly do not 'speak' the same language. Materializing concepts mean communicating  features radiologists need to see with those who could build programs and luckily, the progress became fairly streamlined and this process does not alter the FDA approval of a MRI.

THE FULL-BODY STRATEGY FOR CANCER SCANNING
In simplistic terms, having a full-body access comports to the fact that everything is connected in one way or another.  Tumor cells start somewhere, but they can spread almost anywhere they want. If we find a cancer in stage one (which usually means confined to the organ of origin) what happens afterwards is to ask if it is IN FACT confined to that organ, or if it has spread somewhere else. This is called staging.

After a cancer is detected, patients often go into a panic asking "What stage is it? ... Is it metastatic?" Working with the conventional MRI or CT of the past, they would have to wait to get a brain MRI, then a chest, abdomen, pelvis study and a bone scan etc. With our technology, we already have all that. We've routinely found people with stage  one cancer as part of early detection. This is a good basis where you want to find it. From here, searching 'full  body' is the best next step to make sure that it's not anywhere else in the body. Using an MRI with diffusion, we can see it  all.

An MRI is known as the most detailed imaging available for scanning a tumor anywhere in the body. Creating a treatment strategy becomes more effective when you know no areas have been overlooked. Patients and physicians both have a higher and more confident level of understanding about what they're dealing with. A great example is confirming that the pounding headache that a patient suffers from after a diagnosis of cancer is stress related, not due the fear of a metastasis...Whole body MRI coverage can preempt this concern.

REPLACING CONTRAST?
From a tumor perspective, you frequently get an increased number of cells which contributes to increased metabolism which often requires more energy. Injecting contrast – ie MRI gadolinium or CT iodine – ends up going to areas of increased blood flow where there is more energy needed, whereas FDG Positron Emission Tomography delivers increased glucose to the cells that are growing and have more energy demand. Instead of contrast our diffusion system works to track cellular density – whereby increased cellular density usually means a high concentration of cells (which is a tumor) which gives off a lot of signal. So as a result we're actually looking with diffusion at cells at a cellular level to see how dense (or hard) they  are. That's how we're able to characterize what the tissue is composed of with that functional diffusion sequence.

COMMUNICATION TOOLS FOR EARLY DETECTION
Ideally, we want to find things in stage one, but the only way we can do that is to SCREEN. To create a full-body baseline scan of anyone offers a new layer of peace of mind whether we find something or not. In our decade long history, we have luckily found many early stage cancers in patients who were not expecting anything wrong – and this adds to the success and fortunately efficacy of the treatment phase.

After a Prenuvo scan, diagnostic-quality images are provided to each patient, which are available for review between patient and physician. For those who receive a Prenuvo scan because of potential concerns, correlating what is on the images with their possible symptoms is a major benefit to confirming a disorder. If a patient has concerns of symptoms expressing  as night sweats, unusual weight loss, bone pain etc, a one hour Prenuvo scan can provide almost unequivocal imaging answers, or at the very least eliminates most major concerns and provide peace of mind, because with MRI we have looked through the entire body where the eyes cannot see.

Once an issue is identified, our radiology team communicates the report. For continuity of care, our team of health practitioners will go through and explain what's going on. If there's no  cancer per se, then the report goes directly to the patient with the findings combined with simplification of terms  so anyone can understand what it means. However if there is a finding, the scans directly go to a group of health practitioners who discuss next steps directly with that patient and ensure they're connected into the medical system. We remain involved with the entire patient journey and want to be part of the whole imaging continuity of  care  spectrum that the patient should have.

"CANCER DETECTIVE" FINDS GROUNDBREAKING SCAN

5/20- Dr. Bard receives the 2023
NY Cancer Resource Award
On April 20th @ 4:30PM, Dr. Robert Bard scheduled his first FULL-BODY MRI on 312 West 34th Street.  Prior to its opening date on 4/27, PRENUVO welcomed special guests to test drive their cutting-edge imaging solution.  Positioned in NYC as the 8th installment is a significant landmark in Prenuvo's international footprint.  As a prominent figure in cancer diagnostic imaging and non-invasive research, Dr. Bard found great interest in experiencing this full-body innovation firsthand.
For over 3 decades, Dr. Bard has committed his life's work in the use and support of diagnostic imaging to detect cancer tumors. He is aligned with a global network of fellow cancer 'detectives' and clinical specialists.  He is often called to 'test drive' the latest ultrasound upgrades as part of developers' R&D, prior to market deployment. In addition, Dr. Bard is also a clinical researcher using ultrasound imaging to quantify therapeutic effects of non-invasive medical devices.

On April 27, 2023, Prenuvo officially announced the opening of their first New York City clinic. Founded in Vancouver, Canada, the company is recognized for their design of proactive whole-body imaging for the early detection of cancer and other diseases. With this expansion, New Yorkers will now have access to the fastest, safest, non-invasive whole-body screening on the market so that they can take personal control of their health and seek proactive solutions. PRENUVO REBOOTS HOLISTIC IMAGING WITH FULL BODY MRI By: Robert Bard, MD | Originally published in HealthTechReporter.com

Unlike the many MRI's without contrast of almost every part of my body over the years, this was actually an interactive and possibly enjoyable experience. In addition to not having to worry about getting a contrast infusion, the fact that it was getting so much of the body minus the hands and feet offers an excellent overview. Because disease in one part of the body may cascade dysfunction in other parts of the body, the developers of this full body scan offers a diagnostic solution to address this. For example, a gallstone can drop into the pelvis, or an ovarian tumor can spread to the axilla or a melanoma of the calf can metastasize to the brain. The idea of full body imaging to rule out any kind of metastatic disease or primary disease like an aneurysm or an unsuspected kidney cancer is very important.

For such a comprehensive scan that takes a little more than an hour without any preparation is quite impressive to me.  In the case of abdominal imaging (specifically) for prostate studies, the fact that you don't need an enema or pre-op work is a major upgrade. Conducting a procedure becomes much easier due to the multiple areas of monitoring that are simultaneously available. This means you're getting more than one “workup”.

What I find special about the Prenuvo experience is that after the scan, you are contacted by a specialist who will explain the procedure and your imaging report.  For non-medical people, this process is invaluable. Also the video presentations of the pathology are placed before you in a three dimensional hologram- making it easy to navigate through the scans.

Prenuvo promotes their technology as a PREVENTATIVE tool for anyone interested in a full-body view of their health.  This also works as part of an EARLY DETECTION protocol because the sooner you can catch something, the more time you have to address it- especially with cancers. Also, this is an advantage with inflammatory disease since psoriasis of the nail or the fingers can involve the joints anywhere in the body, especially in the pelvis and the sacroiliac joints. This would tell you if the treatment you are getting is responding slowing or if the progression is not working at all.  This full body scan offers a whole look at where the problem is and where it isn't and lets you confidently focus on the treatment technology in a more suitable direction.

INTELLIGENT SCAN FOR COMPLEX DISORDERS
Currently, the modern thinking of disease has changed. Something like psoriasis (a worldwide skin disease) not only affects the skin and the joints, but gives you an increased risk of stroke and cancer development. So when you get the full body scan, you check if your heart or brain are involved by the vasculitis. This is an inflammatory disease- and because it's a whole body disorder, we want to treat the whole body. As a matter of fact, it makes sense to scan the whole body first- making the Prenuvo ideal for producing a proper base line.

The same thing goes with metastatic cancer. You need to see where it is, where it's going to and where it hasn't gone to. The conundrum occurs with a tumor vs. the inflammation that usually appears with a tumor. We are seeing this more often- where a large cancer is actually part-cancer, part scarring fibrosis and part-inflammation.  In other words, what you see and feel isn't necessarily disease. Through advanced imaging, you may distinguish suspicious tissue from fibrosis, an inflammatory tissue or cancer which is where the ultrasound compliments the full body imaging.

TECH TALK: PRENUVO'S UNIQUE APPROACH TO WB-MRI

MRI technology has now matured over the past 20-years where we can actually effectively perform diagnostic-quality WB-MRI. Via careful MRI protocol design and optimization, we have developed a specialized WB-MRI focused screening service that has been of significant clinical utility to our patients and referring-clinician colleagues.

Our approach to whole-body MRI imaging is one that is geared for early detection, fast yet comprehensive, safe and comfortable. Our standard Prenuvo screening protocol is a comprehensive multiparametric Whole-Body MRI study (anatomically covering the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, whole-spine, and lower-extremities through the ankles)  that takes under 1 hour without compromising diagnostic quality. This technique is effective to detect, localize, characterize, and even stage a very wide-spectrum of pathology (ranging from solid-tumors even at small early/localized stages, to benign cysts, to brain aneurysms, and many other diverse pathologies) with a very high-level of sensitivity and specificity for a screening evaluation.  We do this without undesirable radiation or contrast.

What makes our approach different from traditional MRI approaches, which typically rely primarily on more anatomically-focused imaging, is that we also combine this with an important specialized functional-focused MRI-technique known as Diffusion-Weighted-Imaging (DWI) covering the whole body. DWI has been clinically-demonstrated to play a very valuable role particularly in oncological-imaging; and, in the screening setting DWI significantly enhances  our ability to discriminate oncologically-concerning lesions from benign lesions. DWI can be thought of as an MRI-analogue to PET-imaging (whereas PET highlights hypermetabolism of cancerous tissue, DWI highlights hypercellular-density or “tissue hardness” characteristic of cancerous tissue).

Our DWI technique, in conjunction with the multiple other well established multiplanar multiparametric MRI sequences in our protocol, afford us the requisite level of sensitivity and specificity needed to provide clinical value in the context of desired proactive screening. Most standard MRI systems are not capable of performing these specialized WB-MRI sequences at an acceptable speed, image resolution, and similar multiparametric comprehensiveness.

MRI SCREENING vs HOSPITAL CONVENTION-  Prenuvo scans capture 2000 images in 28 areas in under an hour at diagnostic quality, with 1B+ data points acquired, compared to the 4-5 hours it would take through conventional MRI. Conventional MRIs also use pre-programmed protocols that are not optimized for whole-body speed capture without compromising diagnostic quality. We've taken a different approach and verticalized our hardware and designed software acquisition protocols for whole-body diagnostic yield in under one hour.

WHOLE BODY NON-INVASIVE THERAPIES FOR IMPAIRED CHILDREN (PART 1)

EXPANDING MY USE OF HYPERBARIC THERAPY
For all many the reasons why I acquired my Hyperbaric Chamber, my most recurring inspirations included building my brain health lab and also to offer care to my list of cancer patients. As the word got out about my recent acquisition, I began to uncover firsthand the restorative health advantages to more chronic and degenerative disorders with the outpour of patients requesting its therapeutic benefits.

NON-INVASIVE CARE FOR PEDIATRIC AUTISM`
A large percentage of my patients are children with varying stages of chronic or neurodegenerative issues. For over 60 days, I provided exploratory care to two autistic patients (4 and 18). Addressing their immediate symptoms, they both received hyperbaric care three times a week- achieving significant results. The way I'm using it is off label. Hyperbarics was originally for people who had the bends and for wound care. I know that a hyperbaric works with pressure and gas oxygen, you force oxygen delivery to tissues that need repair. So with someone like autism who has a lot of neuroinflammation, there is some lack of hypoxia. So a dose of pressure and extra doses of oxygen delivered can be extremely beneficial to decrease that inflammation.

For many of my patients, I often combine multiple modalities including pulsed electromagnetic frequency with hyperbaric treatment. The advantage of using hyperbaric is to speed up the therapeutic results with the children doing their own cognitive behavioral therapies elsewhere. With this system, I observe them having more eye contact, less irritability and a reduction in moaning from their neuroinflammation. I'm seeing the four year has started to role play with his toys which, for him to play by himself with his toys and act out is a big improvement.

Combining and re-adapting such modalities offer so much to both the pediatric community and to those who are speech-impaired. I elected to unite technologies like hyperbaric therapy, PEMF, Biofeedback and the BrainTap device to help ease the brain by bringing down that inflammation with technologies that are designed to safely work together. I find these devices to work well in concert without any adverse reactions. From here, I am assessing similar protocols for chronic and other neurodegenerative disease diseases like dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Also, there are acute phases like TBI ( traumatic brain injury), concussion and stroke cases. Treating these neurodegenerative diseases align with inflammation and hypoxia.

THEORIES FOR ADDRESSING CANCER SYMPTOMS
Hyperbaric treatment for cancer patients can help hyperoxygenate tissues that have been damaged either by radiation and chemotherapy.  You need to reperfuse those zones (safely) that need to be regenerated.  Most cancer patients have neuropathy and hyperbaric treatment can help with their symptoms. Cancer cells don't like oxygen, and even though it's not a form of treatment for cancer, exposing them to an oxygenated environment is a means of battling cancer.

AVACEN REVIEW

Sharon could hardly believe it. After years of doctors visits, medications, and thousands of dollars spent, she had almost given up hope that anything could help the numbness in her feet, the swelling in her legs, the exhaustion that seemed to seep into her very bones, or the constant pain in her muscles and joints that made her want to cry all the time. She had been passed off to so many specialists, been prescribed so many medications with conflicting side effects, and had even accepted many of her daily struggles as her “new normal.”

DID YOU KNOW:

Harvard researcher shows more than 30% of the U.S. older adult population sees more than 5 different doctors a year. According to the CDC, almost 50% of the the total U.S. population uses at least 1 prescription drug, with an average of 70 listed reactions per drug

As she removed her hand from the AVACEN Medical Device, she stared in amazement and flexed her fingers without any stiffness or pain for the first time in years. She had come a long way in the past several months, working side by side with a Naturopathic Doctor to determine the best ways to support how her body wanted to heal naturally. This was a completely different approach than ever before but it felt warm and supportive and it was much easier than she expected it to be.

Can you try and imagine such a turning point from using a single device in just 30 minutes? For Sharon it first sounded too good to be true until she tried it for herself. Backed by 17 years of research and development, it’s a Class II Medical Device used for restoring systemic microcirculation. This is important because if oxygen and nutrients can more readily flow to the smallest capillaries, it becomes easy to reach and restore balance and healing everywhere the blood goes. It sounds simple enough, but over 4,000 different computations are involved in this device’s regulation of a negative pressure cuff and a heating pad that warms and stimulates oxygenation of the blood flowing through the arteriovenous anastomoses (AVAs). The unique synergy of negative pressure and heat is what brings together the possibility of systemic restoration.

Would you find it fascinating  to know that the AVACEN device's applications extend far beyond its FDA clearance for pain relief, encompassing post-surgical recovery, athletic performance improvement, and addressing a myriad of systemic health challenges? It's not only embraced by surgeons for post-surgical recovery enhancement, but also harnessed by athletes to amplify performance, endurance, and rejuvenation. Moreover, doctors leverage its potential to tackle an array of systemic and chronic concerns, stemming from intricate interplays involving blood, inflammation, and immune functions, among others.

Dr Matthew and Dr Michelle Einsohn, Naturopathic Doctors and founders of private practice Doctor Me and You, often use the AVACEN to help address root causes in their patients. Dr Michelle says,

“The AVACEN has been a game changer for so many of our patients, especially the ones who are homebound or have chronic or systemic illness with a wide variety of symptoms. If the blood or circulation or inflammation is part of the root problem, you can bet the AVACEN offers an easy and very effective non-invasive solution.”

Doctor Me and You is an online telemedicine practice that empowers patients with knowledge and unique at-home tools for natural and non-invasive healing. These solutions are geared toward assisting the body’s own healing mechanisms during each stage of their healing process. Solutions such as AVACEN, infrared light therapy, plant stem cells, frequency medicine and medical grade supplements create a wealth of options as diverse and flexible as the 200+ patients they serve in states all over the US. Ongoing text support with the Doctors between appointments encourages “on the spot” learning, to help individuals navigate health changes as they occur in real time.

Sharon wasn’t the only one getting seemingly miraculous results from the AVACEN. Kent was a military veteran diagnosed with diabetes 9 years earlier. He had tried changing his diet and exercise habits a couple of times, but being in his late 60s, he struggled to make the new habits stick and so he relied on insulin and medications to keep his blood sugar levels in check even though the medication made him feel tired. His daughter had told him all about this new device that might help the pain he was experiencing as a result of long-term diabetes. It was easy enough for him to do, since the device was about the size of a bread box, and he set it down on the couch next to him, put his hand in the glove and slipped his hand into the device to begin his treatment. He did this while watching TV every evening for several weeks. By week 3, he noticed that he felt different after taking his medications and when he went to his doctor, his numbers improved without any changes to diet or exercise. Being a natural skeptic, he decided to continue the experiment for a bit longer and had such great improvement that his doctor actually had to lower the amount of insulin he was taking. Now he feels better than ever and is hopeful that eventually he will be off most or all of his medications.

DID YOU KNOW:

According to the National Health Service Type 2 Diabetes is not a pancreas problem, but the bodies inability to safely store fat under the skin, which then causes problems for the liver, and when the liver can not handle any more it finally causes problems for the pancreas that presents itself as diabetes.

The liver requires a healthy supply of well-oxygenated blood to perform any one of its 1,000 functions per day! Can you visualize how a device that can benefit the blood, which goes to every organ, could impact a symptom like diabetes?

As the AVACEN Medical Device continues to grow in popularity among patients and practitioners alike, stories like these keep pouring in. The amazing results are so consistent, in fact, that the company even offers a 30 day money back guarantee on the device and places like Doctor Me and You will even rent out the device so you can try it in the comfort of your own home. The world continues to change and the way we integrate healthcare and technology is changing to suit the new needs of individuals today. This is just one of the new ways healthcare is shifting and being brought into the home.

CHANGEMAKER OF THE MONTH: WHO IS CHARLES VORWALLER?

An Interview with CHARLES VORWALLER
Written by: Lennard Goetze, Ed.D

Since 2021, I collaborated on a publishing project with Dr. Robert L. Bard (diagnostic imaging specialist) to conduct a tech performance review about AxioBionics wearable therapeutic device.  This was the impetus to our advocacy group and educational initiative aptly called HEALTH TECH REPORTER whose goals are to seek out and test drive the latest in non-invasive therapeutic solutions and publish reports on the validity of their claims and health advantages.

In early 2023, we launched an event series called HEALTH TECH DEMO DAY in Dr. Bard's diagnostic imaging practice in NYC. This became the central ground for hosting manufacturers showcase of their latest devices where they provide actual case demonstrations directly to our reporters and Dr. Bard's patients.

Our 2023 search brought us together with a remarkable advancement in red light therapy by a company called Aspen Laser (See event report on March 7, 2023) where a Demo Day with their rep was a great success. Shortly after the event, a heartfelt thanks and congratulatory letter was sent to CEO and founder Mr. Charles Vorwaller for a fantastic product.  A stunning surprise was granted us directly by Mr. Vorwaller who immediately booked a flight to NYC to see us. With a growing set of clues about the strength behind this company (and their truly fearless leader), his energy and enthusiasm to connect aligned with the INC5000 list of fastest growing privately owned companies in 2020. Headlines reported Aspen Laser was the only medical laser company on the list. In 202I, it received a five-year GSA contract to sell to VA hospitals. [1]

Setting the industry standard, the TheraLight 360 uses patent pending technologies that ensure tissue saturation regardless of skin color or body type.  He brought major spotlight to the scientific term (and treatment modality) "Photobiomodulation Therapy"  - the application of Red and Near Infrared light to tissue that is injured, sick or degenerating to increase circulation, increase cellular energy production, reduce inflammation and reduce Oxidative Stress. His original vision that began in 1988 over 35 years ago was to redefine Pain Management and Recovery that resulted in the startup in 2014 for a new company called ASPEN LASER.  It grew to become a leading edge nonpharmacologic technology and research based products that make a difference in the lives of individuals (including animals) suffering from pain and injury.  Mr. Vorwaller's initial focus to accomplish this was through innovative development and breakthrough advancement with lasers providing High Intensity Laser Therapy, incorporating technologies with multiple power levels, multiple wavelengths and multiple operating modes.

We had the distinct pleasure of collaborating with Mr. Vorwaller at Dr. Bard's "MedTech Research Lab".  We also enjoyed sharing Dr. Bard's arsenal of diagnostic imaging devices used for clinically validating biometric response as part of our Medtech device testing.

We found the exchange with Mr. Vorwaller to be both highly educational and inspiring for our continued research work.  He mentioned feeling right at home in deep discussions about exploring the future of therapeutics - aligning with his first passion as a "Technology Tinkerer'.  Dr. Bard and I gained so much from his generosity by the way of endless notes on laser and light technology as well as a front row seat to the entire medical device industry.  With decades of relentless R&D on expanding therapeutic light penetration and engineering, Charles was not shy to describe his process.

In addition, he also shared impressive insight about other non-invasive cell-regenerative modalities including PEMF, SHOCKWAVE, RT THERAPY, NEUROSTIMULATION, TRANSILLUMINATION and BIOFEEDBACK (to name but a few).  He claimed this is all part of his "required reading" as part of identifying the entire pain-healing science.  As an inventor, he also looks at the many potential integration opportunities or "stacking" of existing technologies to form the next generation of products.

"Since our company began, our focus has been on developing leading-edge technology in laser therapy," said Mr. Vorwaller. "Our medical lasers represent a number of technological developments that are significantly different than other lasers and light therapy products in the market... which we found to not be very effective".  The result of his passion and never-ending pursuit for optimal outcomes has resulted in products delivering new treatment options providing higher dosages, more treatment areas and overall faster treatment times and accelerated healing and recovery.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS INSPIRED BY HIS GREATEST HERO
In an exclusive interview with Mr. Vorwaller, he shared a candid look at where it all began for him. The roots to all of his work was heavily inspired by his Dad (Charles J. Vorwaller, LCSW), a 60+ year veteran and recognized visionary leader in the non profit mental health industry.

As a young boy, Charles witnessed firsthand the individuals that were undergoing treatment.  They were sufferers of mental diseases and all the challenges that come from that.
He witnessed his father develop and pursue forward thinking strategies and programs including therapeutic treatments and modalities beyond the traditional and limited drug-focused programs and protocols, with the incorporation of newer standards, including non-pharmaceutical and non-invasive based treatments and interventions. This humbled him greatly to see that his dad explored all options to help the sufferers when no one could help them.  Charles grew up wanting to help the underserved and built this road in health technology.  Looking back, Charles Vorwaller is convinced that his laser and red light therapy innovations contributed to mobilizing the science of patient care and impacted others by offering improved quality of life and in some cases, giving people a new chance at life."

FROM THE BRAIN HEALTH COLLABORATIVE

11/18/2022- RED LIGHT THERAPY FOR TBI (By: Jennifer Stagg, ND) Within the past decade, ads for Red Light Therapy (RLT) devices have exponentially appeared in the health, wellness and commercial markets- drawing significant attention to their claims and challenging their efficacy.  As with all technologies, many variables are to be considered as far as concluding on their proposed health benefits. Published reports from clinical (valid) studies detailing the utility of RLT in human health.  Encouraging reviews indicate that there is a growing body of evidence for the use of RLT in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and neurodegenerative processes, including Stroke and Parkinson’s disease.

PHILOSOPHY BEHIND RED LASER THERAPY
Photobiomodulation is what we're actually doing when we look at red and near infrared light.  (it’s different from far infrared-that's a sauna creating deep heating in the tissue and sweating out toxins). Photobiomodulation is the application of red and near infrared light to tissue where there is disease or dysfunction.  The mechanism of action of light is very simple. It doesn't treat any specific disease or diagnosis, but it treats the underlying cause of all dysfunction in the body (all disease) and that is cellular health and wellness.

Within the cell, oxygen is supposed to flow into the mitochondria, which is the powerhouse of the cell, and that's supposed to produce adenosine triphosphate or ATP.  This is what every cell in the body uses for energy.  Due to exposure to via environmental toxins, lack of sleep, stress, injury and disease, lack of exercise, too much exercise, not enough sunlight, poor nutrition etc. oxygen flows in the cell and then it's bound by nitric oxide. That binding of nitric oxide with oxygen forms a deadly particle called a free radical.  This causes two problems: #1- that oxygen is now not free to go into the mitochondria- so our ATP production in the body drops.  #2- there's the abundance of free radicals is the root of every disease. It's the gene expression for things like cancer, heart disease and diabetes.  So what light does very simply is when we shine light in and we can get light into the cell at the right wavelength, dosage and power density, it simply unbinds the oxygen particle and the nitric oxide particle and the free radical is dissipated into the blood vessel walls. So now we have removed free radicals and inflammation inside the cell. Also, the oxygen respiratory chain starts up again and that oxygen particle is allowed to flow into the mitochondria, and the ATP now goes through the roof and rises again the body.

RED LIGHT THERAPY FOR TBI: by Dr. Jennifer Stagg
’Infrared’ refers to a type of light that is below the spectrum of visible light. The naked eye cannot see this type of light. Light is measured in wavelengths, and to further define infrared, there are near infrared (NIR) and far infrared (FIR) wavelengths. FIR is what is typically found in many of the devices sold to the general public like infrared blankets and saunas. (Although, saunas, combine heat with light so the effects of FIR are not comparable.) FIR offers some mild effects, but it doesn’t penetrate the body as much as NIR. As a result, most clinical research published to date is on visible red/NIR because these have been shown to be more effective. (See full review)

3D DOPPLER ULTRASOUND: A MAJOR ASSET TO RESEARCH
From simple case studies to double blind clinical trials, the many benefits of non-invasive imaging offers  visual proof of treatment efficacy.  Ultrasound in particular is more widely used to collect a patient's biometric data safely and efficiently, thanks to its vastly improved quantitative reporting capacity.

Under exploratory device tech reviews, this video shows the effects of electromagnetic pulse waves neurostimulat stimulation and the induction of cold laser on the body are just some of the noninvasive modalities that are easily monitored with an ultrasound scan. In the case of electromagnetic devices, the involuntary muscle contraction is evidence of the electrical changes in the targeted muscle developers of this technology continue to find new evidence, supporting its ability to recover the body's process through cellular regeneration on a preliminary study, quantitative measurement that the regenerative timeline through the use of a neurostimulator through a simple before and after comparison can easily show the body's reaction to the therapeutic device.

THE SCIENCE OF ENERGY HEALING & THE BIOFIELD -

Everything is energy. Quantum physics has demonstrated that everything exists as a vibrational energy. Some forms of energy have a frequency low enough to make the object solid and therefore visible and physically tangible, such as concrete, trees, mountains, and the human body. Others, such as sound, light, heat and gravity are invisible – but they are no less real. The Biofield is a relatively new term developed in 1992 to describe the concept of energy in a more unified way, integrating knowledge gained from traditional practices with that of modern science.  Three of the main scientific principles underlying our current understanding of the Biofield energy are thermodynamics, physics and quantum physics.  (See complete feature article)

BRAIN HEALTH REVIEW [Part 3]:
POST-COVID BRAIN FOG & WORK PERFORMANCE
Written by: Marilyn Abrahamson, MA,CCC-SLP - CBHC

For some, Post-Covid brain fog can cause everyday cognitive tasks to be more difficult, causing the thought of returning to work to become daunting. Among the many symptoms of Long Covid, one study suggests that up to 80% of Covid-19 survivors suffer from neuropsychological symptoms such as memory impairment, attention deficit, executive dysfunction, difficulty with word finding, multitasking, and impaired visual/spatial skills. These are skills people need to properly perform their jobs, and without these skills, people can become overwhelmed by the smallest tasks.
